Yvonne's bag

i used the Amy Butler Birdie Sling pattern to make this for my lovely mother in law however - i am not totally happy with it but it is still nice - i modified it quite a bit, i made it smaller and with fewer pleats. it was my first time applying my own modifications to a pattern - i guess not unlike changing a recipe it may take a few go's to get it right. i will use a different interface (less stiff) and adjust the handle width.

  1. Hey sis, I think what I love best about your new found talent is that it really seems to show your gifts with colours, perspective and especially your personality and in some ways the cultural influences of your travels!!

I think your mom-in-law is a very lucky lady...the bag looks not just practical but really funky! Is it comfy to wear? The biggest issue I have with bags is the straps.

I recently went to a 'gala/craft fair' and found some amazing bags made from recycled jeans! The straps are strong and wide and don't hurt my shoulders.

I made an insert and hand stitched it into the jean bag with six pouches (using recycled denim and pockets from other jeans) in it to put cell phone, makeup, ipod and other bits and put a zip on it because the bag was open. This way the important stuff doesn't fall out. I will try and take a photo and send it to you.

Love the new dolly too...keep up the great work!
